Close cooperation between Cruyff Foundation and SoccerID

Monday 1 March 2010

Last week Carole Thate (director of the Johan Cruyff Foundation), Carolien Gehrels (Alderman for Sport of the Municipality of Amsterdam) and SoccerID, organiser of Gestion Copa Amsterdam, announced they would work together on a new football festival and platform: Football Valhalla.

Over the Whitsun weekend, the area in and around the Olympic Stadium will change into a great Football Valhalla, where football fans of all ages can come to develop their talents. Saturday, 22 May is devoted entirely to the Johan Cruyff Foundation. The National Final of Cruyff Courts Champions 6 vs 6 will be played on this day. This is the final round of the highly successful football tournament which is organised on Cruyff Courts for boys and girls in year 7 and 8 at primary schools in the Netherlands. In the 2009 - 2010 event more than 1000 teams are battling for the highly coveted title Cruyff Courts Champion of the Netherlands. Besides the finals of Cruyff Courts Champions 6 vs 6, all sorts of activities will be organised during the Football Valhalla to raise funds for the work of the Cruyff Foundation.

About the Johan Cruyff Foundation

The Johan Cruyff Foundation was set up in 1997 at the request of Johan Cruijff to encourage children to be physically active. It does this by setting up and supporting projects that stimulate sports and games, always for the longer term and in close cooperation with involved parties and young people themselves. The Cruyff Courts are the biggest and best-known project of the Foundation. The first pitch was laid in 2003. The Johan Cruyff Foundation has laid 116 Cruyff Courts to date. www.cruyff-foundation.org
